Why should we have an engagement session?

All my wedding packages come with a complimentary engagement session, and I happily shoot engagement sessions for clients who cannot hire me for their wedding day. Even though this session is complimentary for wedding clients, I think it is one of the most important ways you can prepare for your wedding day and I highly encourage my clients to take advantage of this opportunity. Here are some of the reasons why it’s so important.

  • Get to know your photographer - I'm going spend the entire day with you on your wedding day - more than anyone else outside of your wedding party. I want you to trust me, and a huge step towards building that trust is to actually go out and take pictures with me before your big day. You’ll learn my personality and shooting style, and it gives us a chance to see what works and what doesn’t without interfering with your wedding day timeline.
  • Get non wedding photos - As gorgeous and handsome as you are both going to be on your wedding day, you will for the most part be in your wedding attire the entire time. an engagement session gives you a set of portrait together in regular clothes, as simple as that!
  • They’re wonderful mementos - Your engagement photos will be a precious memento. While of course you’ll have your formal wedding portraits when you’re dressed to the nines, it will be so wonderful to be able to pull out professionally photographed images of the two of you in more causal wear during this oh-so exciting time in your life. After all, how many professional photo shoots are you really going to have together in your life? If you’re like most people, the answer is not many.
  • You can do so much with them! - Engagement photos are no longer images that you stick in an album and forget about. These days they can be used for so much. Use them for your save-the-date notifications, send out copies with your wedding invitations, use an album of them as a guestbook at your wedding, incorporate them into the reception decoration, get thank-you cards, made out of them, use them for holiday cards, frame whom and use them as decoration for your first home, and so on. These possibilities for ways you can get your money out of your engagement photos over and over again are quite endless!

What if we buy an engagement session first and then decide to hire you for our wedding?

Fantastic! If you buy your engagement session as a standalone portrait session, I will apply the cost of that session to the final amount due for your booked package. Please note that if you opt out the complimentary engagement, I cannot deduct the price of a standalone engagement session from your wedding package price or substitute for another portrait session type.
